What Are the Dangers of Facebook Hacking?

When someone hacks your Facebook account, he has the ability to change your password. Once he does so, he can use your account at will, and you won’t have any success trying to log on to stop him. This can be a frustrating experience and you probably won’t be able to do anything to prevent it until you report it to Facebook and a Facebook administrator investigates the issue.

Toronto-based journalist William McCoy has been writing since 1997, specializing in topics such as health, nutrition and sports. He has spent much of his career in community news, including at “Nepean This Week” newspaper, and has written for “Canadian Sports Collector” magazine. Facebook hacking is a phenomenon by which someone maliciously gains access to another person’s Facebook account. A person with ill intent can gain access through malware, or simply by finding out the other person’s password, then logging on and impersonating that person. There are several negative repercussions of having your Facebook profile hacked.

In other Facebook games, you can download “cheat engine” programs that will cheat the system by modifying variables that store the amount of money or troops you have and saving those increased values. While these programs also exist for Kingdoms of Camelot, they will only provide the illusion of increased money and power for the current session. The saved values of the variables are stored on the Web server, not locally on your computer. The Web server values cannot be updated, even with a proxy program. If you increase the values using one of these cheat engines, they will be reset the next time you play the game.

To increase your gold reserves at the beginning of the game, you can do two things. First, you can dismiss your troops, although you need to be prepared to bring them back once you have money. Second, you can lower the tax rate to zero, which will increase your happiness score to 100 percent and begin to increase your population. Once your population grows, change the tax rate back to a number that keeps your happiness score above 70 percent and collect your tax gold. You can repeat this scenario over and over again.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) coordinates with law enforcement agencies across the country to punish email hackers through its Cybercrime unit. The DOJ trains investigators, maintains a database of hackers and email scams, and also advises the court system on penalties. It has established eight Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property offices staffed by 22 attorneys in these major metropolitan areas around the country: Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Seattle, New York, and Alexandria, Virginia. These offices focus exclusively on the prosecution of computer fraud, including email hacking, and intellectual property theft. They also advise the DOJ and the court system on the effectiveness of current penalties for these crimes.

How to Customize a Facebook Theme

Most social networking websites, including Twitter and MySpace, let users customize their profiles by changing the colors of text, links, the pages, and adding images to the background. However, Facebook is very strict in what a user’s profile must look like. Facebook users can customize their profile by using the five tagged images at the top of their profile to create one image — a header — using a graphic editing program and the Profile Banner Creator application on Facebook.

Themes installed from userstyles.org are user-created and thus come with no warranties or guarantees; use at your own risk.

Click your browser from the drop-down menu in the module on the right side of the theme page. Userstyles.org supports Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera. If you want to use Stylish to manage and edit themes, click the “Stylish” link to install it on your browser, and then click “Install with Stylish.” If you just want to install the theme as-is, Firefox, Chrome and Opera support installing the individual file as either a user script, a JavaScript file or a CSS file, depending on the browser.

Browse to find the theme you want. You can use any theme that is compatible with a Facebook theme plug-in, so you want to find a plug-in that supports the themes you like. Search through the themes at sites like fbskins.com, facebook-themes.info or facebookthemes.org. Once you’ve found the themes that you want, it’s time to install the plug-in in your browser.

You can adjust the way Facebook appears on your computer by using Facebook themes — sometimes called skins. Since Facebook doesn’t allow users to make changes to the actual website, your theme will be installed in your computer’s Web browser through a plug-in. The plug-in will change the way Facebook appears to you on your computer based on the theme you choose. Some options for Facebook themes can be found at fbskins.com, facebookthemes.org or facebook-themes.info.

Download and install the theme for your plug-in if you used a tool like fbskins.com or facebookthemes.org. You can browse the themes on their websites, and when you find a theme that you want to get, click “Select” or “Select Layout” under the preview image. The plug-in will download and install the theme for you.

Highlight “Add-Ons” at the top of the Mozilla Firefox homepage, then choose “Firefox Add-Ons” from the drop down menu. For Chrome users, click “Features” at the top of the Google Chrome download page, then “Chrome Web Store.”

Pick a theme and click “Install With Stylish,” then “Install” or “OK” in the pop-up window. Check out your new theme by navigating to the Facebook website and logging in to your account.

Launch either Firefox or Chrome. If you don’t have either browser installed on your computer, download one at the Mozilla or Google Chrome website.
